Is ITC a beneficiary of ESG investors’ changing sector preference?

Synopsis: The Russia-Ukraine war is impacting the popular thinking on ESG issues. There already is a rethink on the role of the defense equipment industry in maintaining world peace. The elevated commodity price is bad news for inflation expectations but fund-raising could become easier in green projects. EMAlpha individually analyzed several stocks and found the case of ITC Ltd., an Indian conglomerate, to be quite engaging. As the war raged on, in addition to several other sectors, tobacco was looking less risky for the investors, and that helped the stock price. This movement in stock price came even when there was no improvement in the broader stock sentiment.
